Originally built in c.1860 as the Oakfield Hotel. Grainger rebuilt and remodelled Auchendarroch to become the Barr Smith's summer residence. It was subsequently a convalescent home, and is now part of the Wallis function and cinema complex (as at September 2016). The State Library of South Australia holds records for the Barr Smith family which contain reference material for Auchendarroch.
